Sat for the GMAT today, I was calm, and determined to succeed.
I have been scoring above 670-680 to any CAT prep tests.
Finished the test knowing that I failed to do well in Verbal, but what i saw left me speechless....610 Q45, V28. :cry:
I have never scored below v30 even to my first steps in GMAT.
I'm really frustrated and don't know what to do......I don't even know what to study or to improve......
Any suggestions will be appreciated....

Bloody, the same thing happened to me today. I took the GMAT today and scored a 570. My quant was a 44 and verbal was 25. I have been studying for 3+ months including a Manhattan GMAT class. Before the MGMAT class I scored a 580 on my practice test. After the class I took 3 practice tests and scored 650, 640 and 650 then studied for another 10 days and took the test hoping for a 650+. Anyway, my verbal score on the real thing was the worst I have ever scored. I wonder if I was just nervous and a little burnt out by the time I got to the verbal section. I plan on taking the GMAT again in 4-6 weeks.

Good luck, let's continue to study and re-take it again with better results!

Hi Guys,
The same thing happened with me on Saturday, 20th Nov. My practice test scores were similar to Bloody's and I got 590 (Q:48, V:23) on test day. On last GMAT Prep CAT#2, I got 680. After 3 months of prep and averaging about 680 in Practice, I ended up getting 590 :( Its really shocking and disappointing.

Guys. It happens. Don't worry. Now you know how the real test is. Did you take your practice tests with 6 mins breaks and with AWA. The back to back sections with very short breaks and AWA can make a big difference.

I took last 3 Manhattan CATs & 2 GMAT Preps under real test conditions with two 5min breaks. I was very confident after verbal section that I will atleast cross 650. Anyways, I dont have any other option but to retake it.

I would suggest to take a break and get to ready to give GMAT a fight. There are many inspirational stories in this forum, and they can definitely boost your morale.

First step would be to find weakness, second step would be to improve your weakness, and final step would be to incorporate learnt concepts in CATs.

I think your score shows that you have strong basics, and you can definitely score 700+. Give GMAT a determined fight and you'll be a winner.

same thing happened to me fellas. it's weird how all our verbal score is way off.

i think there's got to be some kind of correlation between doing well in quant, and them giving you harder/trickier verbal questions. but that's just my theory.

yeah i felt pretty confident in both sections as well. and then the 25v popped up and i didn't know where it can from :cry: revisit your learning materials and review your old cat's and if you don't know how you got your answer google it. that's what I'm doing. I guess it helps.

Its totally strange that how many of scoring consistently above 650 in our preps got less than 600.

I took my first test on 11th Oct'2010 and scored 650(Q48 V32).

After that i took 6 weeks break and took GMAT again on 22nd Nov'2010 and scored aweful 580 (Q47 V25).

I am totally devastated.

I think this change has been pretty recent I would suggest. I even asked GMAC to recheck my verbal for errors but they claimed that they have and found nothing, which I don't believe. But in any event, I think the questions are seriously getting a lot trickier now. I found an article concerning this matter. Hope it helps.
