hello
i have been admitted to washu olin, i am an international candidate. recently i have been told by a friend living in USA that st. Louis is very high crime place and at any cost i should not go there. In order to cross check his point i searched about st Louis online and found that what he said is fair. So, now i am confused whether i should pass on this opportunity or take it with the risks involved.

I doubt it has a crime rate higher than Chicago... which has Booth and Kellogg. Unless of course you are a rich supermodel, I don’t think you have much to worry about in St. Louis than in another large city in the US.
PS. It is also about the neighborhood. In LA there is Compton and then Beverly Hills. Both are in LA metro but have a diff crime rate.

Sounds like your friend may be lacking in critical thinking skills. St. Louis was big in the news because of the Michael Brown incident, but it isn’t some lawless wasteland. As mentioned above, Chicago has unsafe areas too, just like any large city. DC, NYC, LA - they all have bad neighborhoods. Wash U and Olin are in West county, which is the safest part of the city, and are in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods within West county alone.
