I dont know ONE African who got an invite... but i know plenty of friends who are doing their GMATS now so they can apply Round 2. I think if we receive a deferral it would have been better to apply Round 2 (Could have worked on applications more). However they are trying to increase numbers from our continent so I dont think that they will be taking less people. They may just be waiting for more applicants so they can make a more informed decision. Who knows... Iv pretty much given up hope though.. sometimes better to expect the worst :)

It's funny for me to remember that just a couple of years ago my dreams and goals didn't even involve a big name MBA program, I have been molded and influenced, at times for better at times for worse, by my career thus far as a management consultant. Now I was so desperately clinching to the hope of getting admitted as if that had been my dream all along. It feels a bit like waking up. So thanks Stanford (with some sarcasm of course), you'll regret it, but I believe I needed it.[/quote]

I think that's what happens to most management consultants. I am one too and had a serious wakeup call this summer. Don't get me wrong, I do think there is some value in all this - that is why I applied in the first place - but it is important to realize what that value is and clearly articulate it for yourself. MBA or not, you should start planning your exit from MC if that is what you want. You have to build your dreams by yourself, no firm will do this for you ;)

Just had my interview... the interviewer was eager to share her amazing experience at GSB and how much she loved that place. She also asked a few behavior questions - I could've answered better but I was too nervous so I felt I was speaking too fast... Oh well, she did mention that interview is just one data point in the whole admission process so we will see. Now the waiting begins!

So did anyone from Eastern Europe get an invite before yesterday?

Not me. Also - no one from the people I know got an invite.

Not me either. They must have invited someone not on this forum

I know this might be silly, but you know... just in case the invite came and it got lost in cyberspace... for those of you who got an invite, did it change your status at all in your applicant portal?

I interviewed and my status has not changed from "currently under review." I will say that after I hadn't scheduled my interview for a few days they sent me a reminder email and I assume they would have called me if I was in danger of missing the interview deadline.

Two questions: has anyone received an invite since the 19th?

Did anyone receive an invitation for interview during a period that they noted they would be traveling/unavailable?

I received my invite on the 19th, but noted I would be traveling from 11/21-11/29. I tried to schedule my interview for 11/21 before I left, but no luck as my interviewer was busy. Reached out to Admissions, and they said it was OK for my interview to be done when I am back-- so now my interview is scheduled for 12/2. As an alternative, they offered to assign me a different interviewer in the city I would be in for the Thanksgiving holiday.

FROM Stanford Admissions Blog: Even More Admissions Myths Debunked
We're wrapping up our Myth Busters series this week by shedding some light on reporting work experience on your application, our evaluation criteria, and the GMAT vs. GRE. For more myth-busting, read last week's post on letters of reference, or dust off the very first post in the series from two weeks ago.

MYTH: If I worked full-time during or before college, I can count those months as "full-time work experience."
THE TRUTH: We value all work experience, including jobs or military service you've had before graduating college. We ask that in the box for “months of full-time work experience," you include only the months of full-time work experience SINCE you graduated from your undergraduate university, calculating the number of months from your college graduation until September 1, 2014. This is simply for data reporting purposes. You'll see that statistic in our class profile so we want the data to be consistent across the entire applicant pool. It has NOTHING to do with how we evaluate applications. If you pursued a full-time career prior to graduating college, we would be eager to hear about your personal journey and the choices you've made.

Since the application form doesn't fit every person's situation, we ask that applicants who have worked full-time before graduating college report that in the Part-Time Employment section and indicate 40 hours in the "hours/week" box. We will connect the dots that you were working before or throughout college. Also, the resume we ask you to submit will show us your career path.

MYTH: If my application doesn't meet certain criteria, the admissions office won’t even look at it.
THE TRUTH: We review each and every application to understand your background, aspirations, and potential. While scores and grades command attention in the blogosphere, each of you is more than a combination of statistics; we are building a community as well as a class. Real people are getting to know you through your application. This is not an automated process; it’s a very human process that takes time and deliberation.

MYTH: Even though Stanford GSB accepts either the GMAT or GRE, it’s better to submit GMAT scores.
THE TRUTH: Nope. We don’t have a preference either way; and if we did, we’d tell you. Do what makes sense for you. For example, if you’re applying to Stanford’s joint MBA and MS in Computer Science, the Department of Computer Science requires the GRE. Or, if you’re applying to other graduate programs that accept only the GRE, there’s no reason to spend your time and money taking the GMAT, too, unless it’s required by another MBA program that you are applying to. If you’re applying to multiple MBA programs, some schools only accept the GMAT so just make sure you've done your research on which tests certain schools accept.

Thanks for reading! Continue learning about our application process by visiting our website. For advice and encouragement along the way, we also recommend having a look at these perspectives from the Assistant Dean for MBA Admissions.

Hello everyone,

I am a round 1 applicant, and my heart almost came to a complete stop when I received an e-mail from Stanford last night.

Unfortunately it turned out to be a deadline reminder for round 2 :(

Anyway I started to wonder if this was normal for stanford to send out these notices to everyone including those that have already submitted their apps in round 1.

If not, should I worry that my app might not have been submitted/registered properly?

Hi yulkim. I am round 1 applicant too and I have not received my invite yet. However, yesterday I didn't the email you are talking about. Maybe you are waitlisted :?: It is better than been rejected. Isn't it?

i received the email as well, though i got it nov. 21st @ 12:41pm est while it was dated for for nov. 20th @ 7.10pm est; my application status still says "your application is currently under review" as many of the interview invitees have as well - it doesn't seem this changes from this point on anymore. i think this was a blanketed email to everyone whose shown interest in gsb and checked off they want to be notified of updates, and isn't an early sign of invite/waitlist/etc.

I agree with the less optimistic view. I cannot help but feel that Stanford is about to cause me some emotional pain, but this is how I'm coping (this is a venting post).

I thought I had a solid profile, particularly fitted for GSB, and would be able to have a choice between HBS (further consideration) & Stanford (nothing yet). This has not only been humbling, but also enlightening and will probably be a positive experience afterwards. As rejection piles up, stress and expectation lowers. Each time it becomes clearer to me, that partially I was just trying to get a star on my forehead that said "well done chap, you got in, you are part of the club".
Each failure is a remainder that I have to keep fighting and that no matter where I get in or what I do, it is still all about me. It is still about my choices in life, my capabilities, and my determination to achieve anything I want, that have led me to where I am right now... so I am less worried about some admissions committee finding me fit or not for their program.

And I will not deny that there is a certain childish anger along with the disappointment, but anger is positive if you know how to canalize it. For me it is particularly useful as motivation, and I am driven to prove them wrong, and I will do it for me. It is getting easier for me to get detached from these "big names" and focus on the goal rather than the means.

This might not have been very coherent or helpful, but at least I feel better now!

Regards everyone and the best of luck! If they don't choose us, then let's prove them why they should have!

I agree with this 100%. I'm in the same boat. I honestly would have never applied to Stanford if it wasn't for the urging of an MBA consultant. It seemed like a dream school and such a reach. It does bode well for me that I'm an underrepresented minority and have a pretty good background/work experience.

Regardless, I've already prepared my mind for the ding. I know there are still a few days left but I'm not going to stress over it. I don't really have any regrets however. It does suck that I spent A LOT of time on my GSB app and will have absolutely zero feedback on where I went wrong. I suspect I have weak recommenders but I'll never know.

I've never been one of those guys that HAD to go to a top 3 school anyway so I'll continue to press on with my rd 2 apps.

Hi all,

Just to add another data point that might help - I received an interview invite from Stanford 5 hours ago. Totally shocked! Looks like they're still trickling out, so don't lose hope just yet. Good luck to everyone!
