Hi, I am fairly new to this forumn but can see that it has a very active community with a wealth of information. I am hoping for Stern PT Fall2009 . There is a lot of ambiguity in terms of career options while doing Stern PT. Although I saw some isolated discussions in the threads here, I am still under a lot of confusion when it comes to post career options for this programe.

What's the insider take on:-

1) options for switching jobs based on your MBA after the Part time programe from the campus?
2) Does this depend on your school club activities?
3) Do people get a breakthrough using this program?

NYU Langone PT MBA is notoriously famous for not allowing their students to participate in Job Fairs or any other on campus recruiting activities available to FT MBA students.

If you are planning to find a job on your own or to advance through current organization, Stern PT program is probably ideal. However, if you are looking to switch your career, PT MBA from Stern is going to be a tough option due to current job market, and lack of assistance from school Career Office.

NYU Stern PT is not as bad on Career Switchers as the reputation. Trust me, I did it using their Career Center. There are 2 different career centers at Stern. One for FT and one for PT and Alumni.

The problem with the process is that many of the PTimers don't put in the work to make the switch. Again, I know b/c I saw it first hand. I put in a ton of work and got a good job from on campus recruiting and had several interviews.

I personally believe that the best jobs are not on campus. Sure you can go IB or MC through Stern. PTimers get those jobs every year. But I don't think those are the best jobs (My wife has a summer internship with a Bulge Bracket Investment Bank). Those jobs pay well...but several jobs pay well. They also have tons of drawbacks. I know several people in those positions that make good money but hate their job. I also know several PTimers at Hedge Funds, PE shops, REITs, etc. who make similar money without the lifestyle.
