Submitting to Columbia in February-March: Odds of Admission
Every year, some candidates choose to submit applications to Columbia GSB between early February and early March. At times, this is simply because they started the application process relatively late or felt compelled to wait until their standardized test score improved. In other instances, candidates may have heard about admissions decisions from other business schools and they did not receive acceptances, yet they want to begin an MBA program in the Fall, so Columbia and other select Round 3 schools become their main options.
Whichever the case may be, if you are considering submitting an application to Columbia with this timing, you have likely heard that Columbia will have already allocated a healthy number of seats for their MBA class. So, a question you may have is, “If I submit my application to Columbia between early February and early March, is it too late? Are my odds of success minimal because I waited too long?”
Plenty of candidates gain admission to CBS when submitting applications between February and March. Remember, Columbia’s admission process is rolling, so the Admissions Committee will review your application as soon as you submit it. But, you will be submitting your application after the large influx of applications that Columbia receives at the beginning of January, as candidates try to meet the deadline for merit scholarship consideration. The profile of the class will already be taking shape. You must go to good lengths to distinguish yourself by drawing attention to your unique and winning credentials, so that you persuade the admissions committee that you will be a value-added addition to the MBA class that is already taking shape.
I am very pleased with the fact that Columbia is still a viable option for candidates in February-March.
