Hello GMATClub.
I've been at it. At it for 3 months now. I remember the naive student who gave the first mock and scored a 485, thinking that this was going to be hard. But little did I know I would be clawing out my hair in frustration.
A student of the arts, I have excelled in verbal communication all my life, and have dreaded the idea of mathematics. Even plain numbers induce a sense of 'ugh, why', and while I have worked to try to overcome that, some mental set remains.
My first leg of preparation was with TTP and credit where it's due, they have helped me raise my score by a solid 100 points. At somewhere around 70% through my prep, I decided to give the mock test 1 again, and was pleased to know that I could solve more questions than I could earlier. However the questions I couldn't solve seemed to be from alien topics, topics I'd never studied before. Only after the exam ended I realised that these topics were from those I had already covered, and even 'mastered' according to TTP. My confidence in them began to waver, but regardless I stuck through.
My mocks provide a very interesting pattern. At this
current juncture I am able to score a 595 and a 585. I am able to consistently get a V83 or 86th percentile, even reaching the V86 at one point (in one of my re-attempts at the first mocks), but the quant and DI sections, oh man. I've never been able to cross the 80th percentile, or even the 70th for that matter (except for once, where I think the set was pretty easy and that was mock 2 so IDK).
I struggle especially on the math related Data Sufficiency questions, with a record of never getting more than 2 correct in the DI section. Just something about it doesn't sit right with me. Some of it might be tied to pressure situations as I've read, but the only way forward is to get comfortable with the exam and that's why I am giving the mocks. I am attaching mock test results for my last 3 attempts, (Official Mock 1, 2, 3). Along with that as you will see, I do have a string of questions incorrect in both sections, which I am guessing dropping my score quite a lot. The quant section is an absolute mystery to me. I feel lost looking at the questions, even messing up basic word translations some times. While these are silly mistakes, I do not how to elevate myself above them.
The score that I want isn't very far off. It's not somewhere in the high 700s,
but 665, or even a 655 would satisfy me enough, as I believe that I have a rather strong profile for my preferred school. I am lost though, I can't seem to push past the 585-595 barrier.
I know there are limited mocks available, but I have charted out a course for myself in which the last week I will be giving a mock everyday since you can retake a mock once.
I have
15 days to my exam, and am willing to give as much time as possible (6-8, even 10!) hours a day for this monumentous task.
My question (request?) is that
what would be my best course forward? Solving questions from GMATClub do not seem to help me (I don't trust my judgement anymore tbh), or maybe I am solving the questions wrong. Every concept seems new, and my confidence in myself is dwindling.
Standardized testing has been one of my least favorite things on the planet, RIGHT after smelly elevators and oil stains on white clothing. How do I do this?
Love and respect,
whompp7
