Exactly. It's a personal choice. And also want to second the notion that many courses (like all of Economist GMAT Tutor's) are less than $1000. If you truly have the discipline to set your own study schedule and stick to it, then go for it!

Hi,
This is a very relevant question.
I live in Pune, India.
Apart from the monetary issue, I also face one more challenge: Finding the right class.

There are so many coaching centers available and I keep on getting mixed reviews about them.
There is one very popular GMAT class which has a class strength of 100+ !!!
Others do have an acceptable class strength of 5-15 students/batch but then one can never be sure of trainers when you keep getting mixed reviews.

I strongly feel that if the right coaching class is not selected, I may end up losing time as well as money. And as a working professional, time is very crucial for my career.

I would say that online classes are a better bet than offline classes(although costly).

As of now, I have decided to start self-study after office hours. I am relying on Manhattan books(for verbal) and Nova(for quant). Got the resources from a senior :)
But later on, I do plan to join an online/offline test-series to remain competitive and identify my weak areas.

Any suggestions on my methodology are most welcome.

I'm with you on in-person classes being a bit of a gamble. With in-person classes, you must rely on the quality of your teacher as well as the quality of your classmates. Online courses work for many because they allow the user to study at their own speed, not waste time relearning topics they already know and focus only on the areas in which they need help. My advice would be to test out a few of these online courses, then decide which is right for you. Economist GMAT Tutor offers a one week free trial. If you'd like to sign up for it, you may do so here: https://gmat.economist.com.

Thanks,

Elizabeth
