Talking about the new oriental school in China

I noticed that somebody mentioned about new oriental school in Beijing, China.
LetтАЩs type the following long saga with my personal stories, I hope you are interested:

I received all my exam trainings (TOEFL, TSE, GRE) from new oriental school.
It started in 1992 (or 1993 when the name was adopted). The founder (Mr. Yu) was a desperate English teacher from Beijing University (BJU). He was on the verge of being fired when school officials found out that he taught some training classes to make some extra money. He was then public ally humiliated with the announcement of punishments published at BJUтАЩs official billboard for two weeksтАж

Fxxxed up and desperate, he left BJU and rented a 6x6 square meters office,
And started his own training class. On the first day, there were three students signed up for the class, knowing that he was once a teacher at BJU, the top university in China (Like Harvard in the US). He was excited, but not for too long. Those students grew suspicious as they found that there were only three students signed up in total. They demanded refund at the end of the first day.

He and his wife waited for one week. The above scenario repeated. There was none signed up in the end.

This bright man realized that the reason was that there were too few students on the list and that made newcomer suspicious, and that is the cause. Guess what he did to turn it around? He wrote down 30 bogus names on the list and Yahoo! Students keep on coming!

That was in 1993, the year he started his тАЬtraining schoolтАЭ in a humble, dilapidated office.

I took the training classes in 1994 and 1995. By that time, there were thousands of students attending his training classes. Beijing is like the state of MA, where hundreds of elite schools are concentrated in one area. In 1995, I believe he had hired around 7~10 other teachers. Every classroom was filled with eager-to-go-abroad students, and they started netting gold.

At that time, their only property was a yellow 2-seat minivan for transporting test papers, etc. Once, Yu told us that he had grown tired of this business: He had just finished an evening class and returned to home, he was sitting on the toilet, and the telephone rang, it was an urgent message: the Police was towing away his schoolтАЩs most precious asset: the yellow minivan, because it was wrongly parked on the street. His subordinates called him because he was the only person who could drove! He jumped off his toilet without wiping his butt cleanly and ran off the street to grab the minivanтАФ1 minute ahead of the towing personnel тАж I am not making this up. I typed this exactly as he told the story seven years ago. He is a man of humble origin. Both his parents are poor farmers in a remote village in China. And perhaps because of this, he is a man of authenticityтАж

I surfed the new oriental schools website today, guess what? They are training 250,000 students per year. And the have opened schools throughout the country, in virtually every major city in China. They have made billions. And the once humble, desperate man is a billionaire now. But he still teaches and still prefers others to call him тАЬteacher YuтАЭ. Another thing I noticed is that they are doing all kinds of trainings: from primary school to graduate school, and they are opening schools/universities all over the country. Their goal: to become Harvard in China. Perhaps more than that: I see they are going to dominate the entire language education business in China.
