Hi Everyone
I recently gave my Gmat and got a 645 (Q81/DI83/V82). I wanted to share my overall experience and understand how should I strategise better as I plan to write it again soon. The order in which i gave the exam was Quant DI Verbal, knowing quant is my strongest.
Quants- The paper was pretty doable, I was in a huge panic state as I had reached the test centre just on time due to traffic. I was able to understand I am making mistakes which i don’t usually do. In mocks I never scored below 85. I finished the quant section and decided to take a break because I needed to calm myself.
During the break I just engaged in a quick self talk, backing myself that I can manage in the next two sections.
It helped me tremendously as i was in a calmer state post that.
DI - During my preparation, I had realised MSR, Verbal TPA are the question types that I don’t do very fast, it takes me more time to solve them so i would skip them in actual exam. However to my surprise the entire exam was in a different pattern/sequence compared to mocks. I don’t know if someone has faced so. I got 2 MSR in later half of the exam and 3 out of 4 TPA as verbal. It struck me in a very difficult situation, but somehow I decided to conquer it one question at a time. Even though, I made a lot of mistakes too I ended up with this score, not sure if that means paper was difficult.
Verbal - Again, another surprise was kept for me. It started with usual but in the middle i got all my RCs back to back and all of them were long length passages. One question at a time was the key for keeping myself calm however, I am not sure if this happens in general because in none of my mocks I got such an experience. Concentrating on back to back RCs and switching the subject area were the key challenges I faced. This is the reason i made more mistakes in RC than in CR.
I wanted to understand if this experience is something that happen often? And how to better strategise the exam to improve my score. I am confused between
GmatWhiz, Egmat and Top one percent.
Thanks a lot for all the help!
