a The audience in soccer matches are oftentimes --> Audience is singular. Hence, it should be "is"

b The audience in a soccer match are often --> Same as A

c The audience in soccer matches is frequently

d The audience in soccer matches is sometimes --> Change in meaning. Sometimes could mean once or twice. While as per the meaning we need more frequent.

e An audience in a soccer match is often --> We are talking about specific audience. So, using An audience makes it generic.

The audience must take a singular verb is, A and B out!!

As pointed out by abhimahna (D) changes the meaning, so answer must be (C)

abhimahna -can you tell me how is E generic-E and C both are possible. IMO-this is a bad question

As per the original meaning of the sentence, we are talking about the specific audience by using the article "the".

E is making this audience generic by using the article "an".

I hope you know the difference between these two articles.

So, E is actually changing the original meaning of the sentence and hence is incorrect.

P.S: Grammatically there is no problem with E. Its all about meaning.
