how could we say that the author is neutral here?
author is taking side by stating that the slaves were treated as subjects

Being biased and narrating a written/historical fact or referring to a biased literature are two different things.

Why 1.b is correct not C. because to be discussed as history there should be a mention of facts, figures and narratives but, consciousnes is discussed about amercicans developed this racism mindset.
