Intent of the sentence, is that the board is questioning the commitment of the CFO, who according to them is not paying much attention.
So with the intent in mind,
the board of directors -> is a group -> singular subject
(A) because, in its opinion, she spent
Giving a reason, because is correctly used, its here correctly
(B) because, in their opinions, she spent
their -> plural pronoun
(C) because spending in their opinion
spending something, irrelevant
(D) due to, in its opinion, she is spending
caused by?? something, irrelevant
(E) although, in its opinion, she spent
Although, its already a -ive scenario, nothing good is happening after the underlined portion.
We are giving a reason.
