I am not seeing any point to use past perfect ...Simple past is needed here ...
none of the answer seems to correct or m i missing some thing ..???

D is grammatically correct but meaning wise its is wrong

Just a friendly reminder to please please include your sources whenever you post a new question!

In this case... well, I agree with sobby, there's no good reason to use past perfect here. My usual disclaimers apply about non-official questions: it's really really tough for anybody to perfectly copy the style of real GMAT questions, and this one seems to miss the mark badly. I wouldn't recommend spending any more time on this one.

Hello GMATNinja,

We have "implied" and "inferred" in this question. Both have different meanings.

In such cases, we don't have to rely on the meaning conveyed in Option A but can select any choice which is grammatically correct, even if meaning differs from the original.

Is that understanding correct?

If yes, can we consider option D?

Yeah, I suppose that there's no real reason why (D) is wrong, though it's a little bit odd to say that the CEO inferred something unless we explain what we inferred it from.

But again: this question is clearly pretty flawed, and I wouldn't recommend spending any more energy on it. :)
