I also marked option D but later realised that in option D "a" is repeating.
Note in the original sentence "a" is not underlined.

so option E is correct

Hi,

I wanted to know if the underlined portion is correct or not.
i.e. does 'a' need to be underlined or this question is perfect in all manners?

Thanks in advance.

The chances that a person who takes the GMAT without preparation will score highly on it is indeed very small.

(A) person who takes the GMAT without preparation will score highly on it is indeed very small
(B) person who take the GMAT without preparation will score highly on it are very small indeed
(C) a person who take the GMAT without preparation will score highly on it is very small indeed
(D) a person taking the GMAT without preparation will score highly on it are indeed very small
(E) person who takes the GMAT without preparation will score highly on it are indeed minute

Error Analysis:
Choice A

Subject verb does not make sense[ Chances - are/is.]

Choice C and choice D

Introduces redundancy error by repeating "A"

Choice B has verb tense error. Subject who is singular and hence singular tense takes should be used.

Choice D - Correct Choice
Correct all the errors of choice A and does not introduces any new error while maintaining the original intended meaning of the sentense.
