I pick the answer choice "A" based on the grounds that computer software is singular but the source shows different answer can some body throw light on this ?

GREEN:Prep-phrase BLUE:Subject RED:Verb

Clause1: The computer software being designed for a project studying Native American access to higher education will not only meet the needs of that study,
Clause2: but also has the versatility and power of facilitating similar research endeavors.

The subject in the second clause is "versatility and power" so we need have.

A:wrong. Has is singular.
B:Correct
C:wrong.it is ambiguous can refer to study or software.
D: wrong. need "but" to go with "not only"
E:wrong. need "but" to go with "not only"

Trembling between A and B, marked A. We can not say B sounds better to us. Per rules A is the optimal solution. Computer software SINGULAR and Paralellism both are followed.

B. and also have --> uses correct verb (sing) and versatility and ...facilitate --> correct ||sms. Best Answer.
C. but it also have ---> wordy
D. versatility and ...facilitating -> wrong ||sms
E. and it also has --> wrong tense used as "software being designed" do not agree with has.

We need 'have' because the sentence is all about future tense. Also B follows parallelism i.e. Will not only meet...... but also have the versatility.

Can anyone explain me wether the First clause "The computer software........ that study" is a dependent clause or independent clause. Thanks in advance

A tip for all those stuck between A & B ...

The computer software being designed for a project studying Native American access to higher education will not only meet the needs of that study, but also has the versatility and power of facilitating similar research endeavors.
(A) but also has the versatility and power of facilitating
(B) but also have the versatility and power to facilitate

Remove not only ... but also from the construction.
==>
The software will meet the needs and have the versatility...

The same rule can be applied for any not only...but also constructions

Hope that helps.

719. The computer software being designed for a project studying Native American access to higher education will not only meet the needs of that study, but also has the versatility and power of facilitating similar research endeavors.
(A) but also has the versatility and power of facilitating
Incorrect. "will not only meet...but also have"
(B) but also have the versatility and power to facilitate
Correct.
(C) but it also has the versatility and power to facilitate
Incorrect. You don't need the "it": [subject] [auxiliar] not only X....but also Y...
(D) and also have the versatility and power of facilitating
Incorrect. The expression is not only X but also Y
(E) and it also has such versatility and power that it can facilitate
Incorrect. The expression is not only X but also Y

Here, the clue is "MEET" which is plural verb used for a plural subject "Software"

Here, the clue is "MEET" which is plural verb used for a plural subject "Software"

The verb here is not meet, but will meet, which may either be singular or plural. Therefore we cannot base our analysis on subject verb agreement in this case.

The second verb is will have (the helping verb will is omitted by virtue of parallelism - .....will not only X, but also Y)

Is the 'will' in a 'Not only X but also' structure that express a future expectation/ possibility (or simply uses a future tense), always optional? Or is there some exception in this case?

"Will" is not optional. It is mandatory when a simple future tense is required.

If "will" is inside the parallel structure, then it must be repeated:
...not only will meet, but also will have

If "will" is outside the parallel structure, then it must not be repeated:
...will not only meet, but also have.

(A) but also has the versatility and power of facilitating
(B) but also have the versatility and power to facilitate ==> not only meet ..... but also have => I chose have because "and" [versatility and power]
(C) but it also has the versatility and power to facilitate
(D) and also have the versatility and power of facilitating
(E) and it also has such versatility and power that it can facilitate idiom not only but also and parallelism to higher to facilitate

After removing the fluff I can think of only two things in the sentence:
1. Idiom => not only but also
2. Parallelism => to higher to facilitate
Please correct me if i am wrong.

I also made the error by running out of time and selected incorrect option.

The subject 'computer software' is singular. While it may be tempting to think that the correct verb is 'has', remember that the verb is in future tense. 'will not only meet...' matches up with 'will not only have.' When speaking in future tense, we employ the plural tense of a verb. Otherwise, the sentence is straightforward: it's the usual idiom business, 'not only...but also.'

Hope that helps!

The computer software being designed for a project studying Native American access to higher education will not only meet the needs of that study, but also has the versatility and power of facilitating similar research endeavors.

(B) but also have the versatility and power to facilitate
(C) but it also has the versatility and power to facilitate
(D) and also have the versatility and power of facilitating
(E) and it also has such versatility and power that it can facilitate

According to the rules, Comma after but should have subject ( IC) . Here in option B there is no subject after but ?

Whenever we talk about future we use plural verb
Example-I will play tomorrow NOT i will plays tomorrow
Vis -a- Vis------He plays every day and He will play after 3 days...
Option B satisfies parallelism NOt Only MEET BUt ALSO HAVE

in dictionary, we have
power to do something
power of something (this dose not mean we have "power of doing something" )

this is reason to eliminate " power of facilliating "

Hi,
When 2 independent clauses are joined by Fanboys, we need the subject on both sides of the comma.

will not only X but also Y

X and Y should be parallel in form.

If you think Y should be has, which is third person singular form, then you should also think X should be meets, which is third person singular form.
