The subject 'computer software' is singular. While it may be tempting to think that the correct verb is 'has', remember that the verb is in future tense. 'will not only meet...' matches up with 'will not only have.' When speaking in future tense, we employ the plural tense of a verb. Otherwise, the sentence is straightforward: it's the usual idiom business, 'not only...but also.'

Hope that helps!

The computer software being designed for a project studying Native American access to higher education will not only meet the needs of that study, but also has the versatility and power of facilitating similar research endeavors.

(A) but also has the versatility and power of facilitating
(B) but also have the versatility and power to facilitate
(C) but it also has the versatility and power to facilitate
(D) and also have the versatility and power of facilitating
(E) and it also has such versatility and power that it can facilitate

Yea I agree... with you. I had the same problem when analyzing this question.

Which sounds right:

The software has
The software have ...

Anyhow- good question otherwise.

Look here is the hint:
The computer software being designed for a project studying Native American access to higher education will not only meet the needs of that study, but also [will] have the versatility and power of facilitating similar research endeavors.
They are talking about future, so it is the same as He will work (not works) tommorow.

That was a good one.

obviously A vs B in this one.

I choose B b/c will have vs will has. Just reading it a few times kinda diminishes A. Also I dont particularly like of facilitating at the end of A.

The rephrasing of the relevant portion will be like this: higher education will (not only meet the needs of that study, but also has) . Here it says that ¬‘will not only mean, will but also has). ‘Will has’ is grammatically wrong and ‘will have’ is the correct expression. In D, ‘and also’ is unidiomatic. Hence B is right

B for me...
"not only but also" idiom eliminates C,D,E
will not only meet the needs of that study, but [will]also have - so B

Why we need have? Shouldn't we use has for the singular computer program being used ???

The Computer software WILL HAVE ... you don't say WILL HAS regardless whether it is singular or plural.
I will have, you will have, he/she/it will have...

I pick the answer choice "A" based on the grounds that computer software is singular but the source shows different answer can some body throw light on this ?

GREEN:Prep-phrase BLUE:Subject RED:Verb

Clause1: The computer software being designed for a project studying Native American access to higher education will not only meet the needs of that study,
Clause2: but also has the versatility and power of facilitating similar research endeavors.

The subject in the second clause is "versatility and power" so we need have.

A:wrong. Has is singular.
B:Correct
C:wrong.it is ambiguous can refer to study or software.
D: wrong. need "but" to go with "not only"
E:wrong. need "but" to go with "not only"

(A) but also has the versatility and power of facilitating has is singular, also power of facilitating is an incorrect idiom, ---incorrect
(B) but also have the versatility and power to facilitatecorrect
(C) but it also has the versatility and power to facilitate out because there is no parallelism & has is singular
(D) and also have the versatility and power of facilitating fail because of incorrect parallelism & incorrect idiom
(E) and it also has such versatility and power that it can facilitate fail because of parallelism & has is incorrect

Subject-verb agreement
meet is used for plural subjects
meets is used for singular subjects
She meets her...
They meet her...

Parallelism
not only x, but also y

Please give me kudos

The verb here is not meet, but will meet, which may either be singular or plural. Therefore we cannot base our analysis on subject verb agreement in this case. :)

The second verb is will have (the helping verb will is omitted by virtue of parallelism - .....will not only X, but also Y)

Is the 'will' in a 'Not only X but also' structure that express a future expectation/ possibility (or simply uses a future tense), always optional? Or is there some exception in this case?

"Will" is not optional. It is mandatory when a simple future tense is required.

If "will" is inside the parallel structure, then it must be repeated:
...not only will meet, but also will have

If "will" is outside the parallel structure, then it must not be repeated:
...will not only meet, but also have.

Whenever we talk about future we use plural verb
Example-I will play tomorrow NOT i will plays tomorrow
Vis -a- Vis------He plays every day and He will play after 3 days...
Option B satisfies parallelism NOt Only MEET BUt ALSO HAVE
