(A) in vegetables rather than: use of but and rather than is redundancy issue
(B) for vegetables rather than: same error as A
(C) in vegetables which were not: change of meaning
(D) for vegetables other than: clears redundancy issue but I prefer "in" against "for"
(E) in vegetables other than: Preferable than D

Option E is the OA for this question.
Options A and B are disqualified as they have used the term "rather" when the sentence already has "but" making it redundant.
Well to be honest, I eliminated option C as I found Option E to be the better option.
Option D, the usage of "for" at the starting of the underlined portion seems a little awkward, that's why I eliminated D also.
