At first I thought A, but changed my mind after at saw option d. European nations' means European nations' dropout rate.. For a, that prompt to ambiguity as which may refer to nations or dropout rate.
Pls let me known where did I go wrong

Use times without "as" or"than" to indicate direct multiplication.
Exp: The cost of a pound of chicken is $4, four times the cost ten years ago.

Choice B would have been right, if it had been written as "the rate in European Nations" or as in choice A "that of European Nations".

The dropout rate in American schools is 10 times that of European nations.

In any case, The OE is required to confirm the OA. IMO, none of the choices fits in as the correct one. The comparison is between the dropout rate in American schools with the dropout rate in European schools and not with that of European nations. European Nations have no dropout rate.


a) that of European nations -- incorrect as mentioned above.
b) what the rate is in Europe -- Europe is a continent and not a school
c) that which it is in Europe - same as in B
d) European nations’--- European nations' may point to European Nations' schools -- still, it is incorrect since the comparison seems to be between the dropout rate with schools.
e) that which they are in Europe - No need to consider this lousy choice.

By tagging as Manhattan, does the poster refer to the legendary Manhattan Prep or the lesser known Manhattan Review?
