I would go with B, even though A may be tempting. A is not good becuase the modifier ' when approached' can modify either the area of the forest or the the fuana. B maks it clear that the pronoun 'they' can only refer to the plural fuana. C, D, and E are bizarre

The fauna is singular,so the use of are in B in not appropriate. A is okay.

If fauna is singular, then the sentence should have read, the fauna generally flees. That was the deal breaker for me to choose B.

Can someone explain why in the question:
Quote:
The fauna found in this area of the forest generally flee when approached by humans.

Flee is correct? Since fauna is singular, shouldn't it be flees?
