IF you get dinged after an interview, does it usually mean that something went wrong during the interview?

Not necessarily, it could be a fit issue when they're building the class.

I would not say for sure something went wrong its just most likely you did okay and your peers probably did just as well. Certain schools have interview rating systems that are very broad. Mostly like love them, like them, still deciding, hate them. (The words might be different, but that's the general idea).

So you could have had a bad one, or just a okay one while your peers did better.

My Wharton interviewer this year told me he's historically tracked the success rate of his interviewees and he found no correlation between the interview result and the admission result i.e. how the interview went had no visible correlation to the admission decision. Of course if you completely bomb the interview, your chances would drop significantly but if you have a stellar interview that doesn't necessarily guarantee you an admit.

Interesting...I always thought they liked you on paper so that's why you got the interview. but guess not the case...
