Part 1: The percent change in the number of customers who switched services from March to May

May = 417, March = 352, Change = 65.
% change = (Change / Original) * 100 = (65 / 352) * 100 = 18.47% (Rounded to nearest hundredth)

the percent change in the number of customers who switched services from January to March.

January = 300, March = 352, Change = 52
% change = (Change / Original) * 100 = (52/ 300) * 100 = 17.33% (Rounded to nearest hundredth)

Hence the answer is equal to.

Part 2: From January to August, the average (arithmetic mean) number of customers who switched falls approximately between

Average January to August = (300 + 321 + 352 + 381 + 417 + 463 + 522 + 580) / 8 = 417.375

Hence, the answer is 400 to 440.

1. The percent change in the number of customers who switched services from March to May is approximately_________ the percent change in the number of customers who switched services from January to March.

Number of customers who switched services from March to May = 352 + 300 + 321 = 973

Number of customers who switched services from January to March = 417 + 381 + 352 = 1150

1150/973 = 1.18 (approximately equal to 1)

EQUAL TO is the correct answer

2. From January to August, the average (arithmetic mean) number of customers who switched falls approximately between______________

the average (arithmetic mean) number of customers who switched = (300 + 321 + 352 + 381 + 417 + 463 + 522 + 580) / 8 = 417 (ie, between 400 and 440)

BETWEEN 400 and 440 is the correct answer

Official Explanation

The answer to the first question is A. About 18% more customers switched in May than in March, and about 17% more switched in March than in January.

The answer to the second question is B. Three hundred customers switched in January and 580 in August. If the graph between those points were a straight line, then the average number of customers who switched per month during that time period would be exactly halfway between those numbers, or 440 customers per month. Instead, though, the graph dips slightly below the level of a straight line between those points, so the average is slightly less than that. The average is in fact about 416 customers per month.
