Why is there no discussion on this laptop? It seems to get great reviews, has a great screen size/weight ration, built in optical, very affordable, sleek looking... I don't get it!

This is the route I plan on going...

do you mean the X300?

The X300 fits that description except for the "very affordable"!

No, I'm talking about the DELL M1330.

Also, the Dell is a 13" Widescreen, the Lenovo's are 12" 4:3...

Do most people recommend 14 or 12 inch screens? I want a computer that is fairly light, but am worried that 12 will be too small. Unfortunately there are very few 13 inch laptops and the ones I looked at were either a fortune or forced you to get Vista. Neither of which I'm okay with.

I always felt that 12 was big enough while "on the go" and I plug into a 19" when I get home to my desk. For me the extra size wasn't worth the added weight (keep in mind the battery will need to be bigger to get the same life with a bigger screen. Batteries are HEAVY!)

I just got a laptop with a 12" screen. For me, the most important thing is if it's widescreen or the old square-ish ones. I had a 13" widescreen, and it was perfect. My 12" square-ish one is less great when doing spreadsheets.

yeah, 12" screen is a bit small, and the same resolution as my 15" T42 screen, so I'm a little worried there. As long as I'm working from home, I have a 19" widescreen that I can use. It's only at school that I'll be hurting for more screen real estate.

Will check out the Dell M1330, thanks for the tip, jwiner! I like Lenovos because of their sturdiness (and I don't care *that* much about an optical drive built in, it's nice, but not necessary considering how often i use my current optical drive), the cheap price, and the feel of the keyboard. Not a huge fan of the Dell keyboards (my roommate has one).

did a little bit of searching around, and the consensus seems to lean towards X61...

Dell Reviews on CNet:
https://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/dell-xp ... 65545.html

Comparisons on Forums:
https://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/show ... p?t=493924
https://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/show ... p?t=503612

looks like my key decision factors are:
- matte screen (easier to see outside, like at coffee shops and stuff)
- longer battery life
- better keyboard
- sturdier

The M1330 looks very nice, but i really don't like glossy screens and the keyboard reviews seem to be not as good (I have some problems with repetitive stress injury in the fingers, so I'm very picky with my keyboards). I will miss the nice large screen though... :(

oh yeah, and I hate the touchpad (personal preference) :P so if you hate the trackpoint, don't use the X61.

I pretty much hate both  And I would go for a portable mouse anytime.

So Tepper came out with their laptop models and they seem more expensive than other similar models from other companies.

They claim that the parts are made for business and so they are made tougher and last longer.... sounds like BS.

Is this right?

gmatclb, that depends. There is some truth in the business models costing more because they're sturdier, but that's why a bunch of us are getting Lenovo Thinkpads, since they're designed to take a beating and don't cost that much more...

Guys,

I've been using ThinkPads all my life (all my business life that is).. currently using an X60. So, at Kellogg they offer the T61, which I'm not so fond of because of the weight, I'm sure performance-wise it's a great laptop.

Now, I love the X series very much, I drool over the X300, but it's too damn expensive. But I'm also considering to use a Mac, just because it looks cool, and my brother uses a MacBook Pro, I would have to agree that it's a cool machine. And I'm thinking for the next 2 years, I have the luxury to choose the notebook that I wanted, because I get all my previous 3 laptops from work.

So, should I get a MacBook? Or a X61 Tablet? For the tablet, I just like it because I never had one before, and I could think the many ways to use it.

I'm not a really technical person, and at Kellogg if you don't buy your laptop from the school I have to fix it myself if there's something wrong with my laptop.

I have touched T61 and X61 before seeing this discussion and intuitively felt that these are the sexiest things now available at the market.
