if you can find one on newegg, they are reputable, pretty good prices, and among the better policies. I buy all my parts from them (including the 2gb ram chip for $36 that arrived today!)

When are you coming to the US? If it's later on, they may have solved their battery issue by then so it may not be a problem......just a thought.

might get an 8-cell x61 battery in Taiwan... anyone know if the lenovo's in different countries use different batteries?

Taiwan has the same voltage and frequency as the US.

kryzak, do you just ship with regular mail/DHL from Taiwan to US? How much is the customs clearance for a battery in US? How painful is the process? Do companies in Taiwan has better quotes for batteries? Thought that US, Hong Kong and Singapore beat out all other countries for consumer electronics prices.

if you are hand carying then no issue in the US (or I've never had one). Just take it out of the box and claim you had it with you when you left. (makes it more believable if you have the laptop with you as well)

Re: The great Laptop discussion forum [#permalink]
yeah, didn't think about the customs issue... but the price is roughly $130 USD, so only $20 cheaper. Granted, one can ask for up to a 20% discount, but I guess with the mailing (roughly $10-20 USD for faster shipment) and the customs, it probably isn't worth it...

and I'm still holding out some hope for the X200...

:) shipping from Taiwan to Russia via TNT is about $40-50 (shipping fees there are better than the ones we have here), regular priority postage could be cheaper, close to the $10-20. But isn't there a way to buy something in Singapore? When I compared choice and price of electronics between Taiwan and Hong Kong, the latter one was a no-brainer. And then my friends told me that Singapore has even lower prices... Work a lot with Taiwan and usually have good quotes only for industrial things/quantities.

very good to hear, skaballet!

as for Singapore vs Taiwan vs HK, I've heard varying debates... I've seen different electronics cheaper at each of the countries than the others... so I guess it really depends on your luck and what you're looking for...

Dell XPS 1330?

On a side note, couple of days ago I saw and touched MacBook Air in a local electronics hypermarket... My wife urged me to buy it, because it was sooo cute :-D Today I spent an hour reading user reviews of this cutie...
