I am confused between option D and E, the conclusion of the argument is "The greatest chance for the existence of extraterrestrial life is on a planet beyond our solar system" and the author support this by stating that 100 billions of other sun could have plantes similar to earth.

If we don't have more than one sun in the galaxy accompanied by Earth like planet, then how can the conclusion still stands "the greatest chance". I see how E also impacts the conclusion, but I am not able to eliminate D

In milky way itself, there are 100 billion other suns with planets. Many of these planets could be similar to Earth to make them suitable for life.

What is the assumption? That you need a planet similar to Earth to support life. Our solar system doesn't work because other planets are not similar to Earth. But there are billions of other Suns and planets and many of them could be similar to Earth.

Correct. The whole argument depends on this. Even though it is never mentioned that life requires Earth like conditions but the argument assume it to say that extraterrestrial life is likely to exist beyond our solar system.
