The growing meteorite business, if they are supported by adequate government resources, can help meteoriticists find many scientifically valuable specimens in the arid mountains and deserts of northwest Africa.

A. if they are supported by adequate government resources, can help
B. when it is adequately supported by government resources, helps
C. if supported by adequate government resources, can help
D. adequately supported by government resources, helps
E. when they are supported by adequate government resources, help

This is a SC Butler Question

I think the correct answer is C, because the working verb in the sentence is can, so we use help instead of helps. Also in order to maintain the meaning of the sentence we need to maintain "can", that leave us with a and c, but a uses the plural pronoun they, so is incorrect

IMO C
