How would an Indian Comp Sci Engineer from a T-30 school who joined an international MM PE firm as an investment Analyst right out of undergrad perceived by the adcom?
I'm getting mixed responses from most folks, some say I'll be overshadowed by the MF PE candidates, some say PE experience - regardless of it being MM or MF, will put me in the "target candidate" category provided I get a high GMAT. Assuming that MFs hire only at the MBA level in India and there will be rarely anyone else from the space, how can I differentiate myself?
I still have 2-3 years to apply for an MBA, but I intend on working in PE for the entire duration and apply while I'm a Pre-MBA Associate.

Hey excellent analysis souvik101990 , what would you suggest a non-iitian to do different(for getting into hbs , stanford and wharton) because I was
seeing on linkedin and most of the profile for these schools from India are from IITs.

I see this is an old post but I am wondering about some admissions strategies that T50-100 schools could consider. I am wondering if they could boost their average GMAT and diversity by taking Indian engineers (and other groups that face tougher odds) scoring between 690-720. These are clearly capable folks who could succeed at many competitive roles.
So 1) could a less selective US MBA program wanting to attract ~5-10 such candidates be able to get them to apply?
2) Would these individuals only attend with significant scholarship $$?
3) Or would it be more important to see examples of graduates getting visa sponsorship after the program?
It seems some MBA schools and company recruiting misses a sweet spot where people just outside the T25 could still snag jobs paying $80-$100k if schools built good relationships with regional companies that will sponsor 5-10 jobs consistently. They tend to charge $30-50k in tuition, allowing for a lower out-of-school salary. Instead, it seems they focus on US students with 0-2 years work experience and limited career upside, IMO.
Please correct me on what is needed to make this work.
