Nice explanation Bunuel... But, I would like to clarify one query on this one in particular. In question it is never mentioned that a, b and c are integers. Hence, can't we uprightly select E in all the cases as there can be many fractions which might satisfy these criteria.

Please put in your thoughts on the same.

But it's mentioned that a, b and c are integers: "What is the volume of the box if a, b, c are integers". But you are right if it were not mentioned it would be straight E.

What I don't understand about this question is how can you have the surface of a one dimensional figure? I thought surface area can only be calculated for three dimensional figures? Like I pictured this problem as a rectangular box- kudos for clarification.

No need to complicate here. Surface are = area.

Volume = abc

St 1: let ab = 4. no idea about c. INSUFFICIENT
St 2: let bc = 8. no idea about a. INSUFFICIENT

St 1 & St 2: ab = 4 and bc = 8. since a,b,c are distinct integer, for ab =4, (a,b) can be (1,4) or (4,1). hence c can be 2 or 8 respectively and the volume can be 8 or 32 respectively. INSUFFICIENT
