Premise 1: The evaluation process is well-developed for hiring high quality personnel.
Premise 2: The output rates are far from satisfactory.

Conclusion: There must be some other reason for such a low output.

A) the evaluation process used by Company T to hire new employees should be abolished in favor of another method
Incorrect. Does not identify/state another cause.

B) it will not be before long it finds itself facing the prospect of bankruptcy
Incorrect. Does not identify/state another cause.

C) the profits earned in previous years were used in improving the company's employee screening process
Incorrect. Does not identify/state another cause. This has nothing to do with low output of employee

D) Company T's management should terminate the contracts of any employees that were hired using the current evaluation system
Incorrect. Does not identify/state another cause. Nothing has been stated about contract employees

E) it is not so much the individual attributes of each employee, but more likely the cooperation between them or the
proper working conditions that Company T is lacking
Correct. Gives a hint that there is a possibility of existence of another cause, and this cause is not linked to individual performance.

Argument is for new employee. option E tells for existing employee and atmosphere, whereas option A talks about evaluation process. therefore I am not convinced with Option E. I chose A.

We are looking for an answer choice which suggest that though the method of evaluation was stringent it wasn't reflected in the output. "A" is an extreme answer and talks about taking a drastic step. As suggested in "E" there is nothing wrong with the process of evaluation but other factors do matter. The cooperation among employees and work ambiance also contribute to the output. Hence these factors affect the output. Evaluation method is not the exclusive factor to decide output.

Hi expert,
I reached option E by POE,but still have a hard time to get the meaning of this option. I just get a vague meaning of this sentence that the company lack something, not individual attributes of each employee.

ps. them refer to employees?

A) the evaluation process used by Company T to hire new employees should be abolished in favor of another method
The choice seems a good answer but the argument provides supportive and strengthening view on the evaluation process and not necessarily saying that all that is wrong because the performance of the selected candidates was low.
B) it will not be before long it finds itself facing the prospect of bankruptcy
Bankruptcy is out of scope and a very bold statement since there is no indication of any such action.
C) the profits earned in previous years were used in improving the company's employee screening process
The profits of the company is out of scope since no such thing is disccussed
D) Company T's management should terminate the contracts of any employees that were hired using the current evaluation system
The evaluation system may not be the reason for the poor performance of the employees but there might be another reason but terminating the employees is not discussed.
E) it is not so much the individual attributes of each employee, but more likely the cooperation between them or the proper working conditions that Company T is lacking
this provides a convincing solution to the delima presented in the argument The choice clarifies and points the reason for the low performance and therfore the best choice.

Yes "them" refers to employees.

This is an explain discrepancy type question.

Company T hires high-quality employees, yet the output is not satisfactory.
The correct answer should explain why this is so. Option E indicates that not high quality employees, but the interaction between the employees and good working conditions bring satisfactory results. Company T lacks these 2 factors, and hence the output is unsatisfactory.
