The people who are least likely to be audited by the Internal Revenue Service this year are those who have been audited since 1985 and who were found to have made no mistakes in filing their returns during that audit.

Of the following people, who is MOST likely to be audited by the IRS?

(A) A person who was audited in 1986 but was not found to have made any mistakes in filing his return.
(B) A person who was audited in 1986 and whose lawyer corrected several mistakes in the tax return prior to the filing deadline.
(C) A person whose spouse was convicted of tax fraud in 1987, who was then audited and found to have made no mistakes.
(D) A person who was last audited in 1984, and had no mistakes uncovered by the IRS during that audit.
(E) A person who was audited in each of the past five years, but was found to have made no mistakes in any of the filings.

I would choose D. Reason:

THe passage suggests that least like to be audited --> those who have been audited since 1985 and were found to be filing the tax returns properly.

Hence, ppl who are most likely to be audited would be defaulters in the both or one.

(a) - this guy was audited in 1986 (later than 1985) and is clean. Hence, incorrect
(b) - this guy was audited in 1986 (later than 1985) and his FINAL tax return was proper( which was edited by his lawer, which is totally irrelevant) .Hence, incorrect
(c) - spouce is a fraud, not the person. Hence, incorrect
(d)- last audit - 1984 ( defaulter is one area)
(e) - he is as clean as it gets..incorrect

USing POE, the best option that we are left with is (D)

My Choice is D.
As:
(A) -- Audited in 1986 and was found clean.
(B) -- Final Submission of more recent report was flawless.
(C) -- Spouse should not be liable for husband's tax fraud case.
(D) -- Audited before 1985. IRS should audit to check as it's older.
(E) -- Very Clean Guy !!

I do not think the OA has been posted yet but I am more than fairly certain that D is the correct answer.

Since B does not state that the lawyer correct ALL the mistakes (several mistakes), I do not agree with discarding B. At least it does not seem to be sure as death to me.

He might have overlooked some mistakes?!

Is this an OG question?
