The population of a country doubled every 10 years from 1985 to 2015, what was the percent increase in population during that time?

A. 200%
B. 400%
C. 500%
D. 700%
E. 800%

Let initial population = I
The population doubles every decade, and time given is 3 decades.
The population increases at the rate of 2^n
n = 3
Hence, population after 3 decades will be 2^3 = 8 times the initial population = 8I
% increase = {(8I - I)/I} * 100
This gives a 700% increase in population.
