Hello again, Tanchat. I recommend checking out the Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL) for theory on grammar. The page I linked to is on punctuation in general, and you can find several uses for colons about halfway down the list. There are two uses that are pertinent to the GMAT™: to preface a list and to emphasize, explain, or define information within the independent clause that precedes it. In the sentence at hand, the latter half is meant to explain why or how [t]he prime lending rate is a key rate in the economy, so the use of the colon is appropriate.

In this question, there is colon after economy, so after colon, something that describes the word (noun) before it
Doubt 1 : Is it necessary that it has to be economy or since it is prepositional phrase i.e "in the economy", it can also modify noun phrase key rates in the economy or even key rates
Doubt 2 : Assuming it has to modify key rates in the economy,
Option A and D starts with not only, this is not what modifies rate and hence should be eliminated, is this approach correct??
