OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

The rate of patents being created is constantly accelerating as technology advances forward.

(A) The rate of patents being created is constantly accelerating as technology advances forward

Not quite.

This answer choice is redundant. Since something that advances always moves forward, the use of the word advances with the word forward creates redundancy.

(B) As technology advances, the rate of patents being created is constantly accelerating

This answer choice eliminates the original redundancy by removing the repeated word forward. None of the original sentence's meaning is lost. Therefore, even though there are shorter answer choices, this one is actually the most concise.

(C) The number of patents created is accelerating as technology advances

That's not it.

This answer choice eliminates the redundancy in the original sentence, by omitting the word forward. However, this answer choice is illogical, because we cannot say that the number accelerates. Note also, that the omission of the word constantly results in some meaning loss as in the original sentence it provides us with information about the acceleration.

Do not automatically choose the shortest answer choice. Make sure that shorter answers are logical and express the same meaning that's been stated in the original sentence. If they don't convey the same meaning, they're probably incorrect.

(D) As technology advances forward, the rate of patents being created is constantly accelerating

Incorrect.

Like the original sentence, this sentence is redundant. The use of the word advances with the word forward creates redundancy, since something that advances always moves forward.

(E) As technology advances, patents are constantly accelerating

Not quite.

This answer choice eliminates the redundancy in the original sentence, by omitting the word forward. . However, the omission of the words rate and being created results in some meaning loss and an illogical sentence: a patent itself cannot accelerate - it is the rate of patent creation that can be accelerated.

Do not automatically choose the shortest answer choice. Make sure that shorter answers express the same meaning that's been stated in the original sentence. If they don't convey the same meaning, they're probably incorrect.
