\(S = C - \frac{B}{4}\)
B = 8, then \(S = C - \frac{8}{4}\) = C-2
Of 42 questions, if he answers 4 correctly, then score, S = 4-2 = 2.
Of 42 questions, if he answers 42 correctly, then score, S = 42-2 = 40.
Only I and II are possible.
D is the answer.

There can be 2 possible maximum scenatios -
1. The students answers all 42 questions correctly and left 8 questions
Score will be \(42 - \frac{8}{4} = 40\)
2. The students answers all 42 questions incorrectly and left 8 questions
Score will be \(0 - \frac{8}{4} = -2\)
Thus, the range of the possible score is -2 to 40 , option (III) comes out of the range , hence answer must be (D) I and II only
