This question is perfectly suited for the
Double Matrix Method, which can be used for questions featuring a population in which each member has two characteristics associated with it (aka overlapping sets questions).
Here, we have a population of subjects, and the two characteristics are:
- has X or doesn't have X
- has Y or doesn't have Y
So, we can set up our matrix as follows:
Now plug in the information from the table to get:
At this point we can see that, the number of subjects that have characteristic X
= 25 + 10 = 35And the number of subjects that have characteristic Y
= 25 + 25 = 50So, the ratio of subjects having X to the subjects having Y =
35/
50 = 7/10 Answer: D
