Yes No No

  • The median stamina score is greater than the median reach.: Median: Stamina score 80, reach 77

  • Stamina score is directly proportional to reach.: There is no direct coorelation, ast stamina score is increasing/decreasing, reach is not increasing/decreasing accordingly

  • If one swimmer is selected at random, the probability that the swimmer’s lap time is below 32 seconds or the reach is above 75 inches is 12/15.

Below 32 seconds: 4/15
Above 75 inches: 9/15
Probability: 13/15

There is one person with reach above 75 & timing below 32 seconds so you are basically counting the same person twice, hence the answer to the last part should be 12 not 13 & so the answer should be Yes rather than No. Cool profile picture btw from one of my favorite films the Godfather Part 2!

1.
For median we need to see the (15+1)/2=8th value in ascending order.
So, for stamina score sort the table in ascending order and 8th value is 80.
Similarly for Reach sort the table in ascending order and 8th value is 77.
Therefore, Median Stamina > Median Reach
Hence YES

2.
For Stamina score is directly proportional to reach the ratio of Stamina/Reach should be equal to constant ratio = K
But this not the case.
Taking 2 random datapoints -
For Chen K = 69/72 and for Lopez K = 90/71. So both K are different
So, they are not proportional.
Hence NO

3.
Swimmers with Lap time below 32 sec: {Olsen, Hughes, Chen and Lopez} = 4
Swimmers with Reach>75: {Jensen, Grant, Ibrahim, Barton, Mason, Diaz, Foster, Kim, Olsen} = 9
Olsen is common so favourable swimmers are 4+9-1=12. Total Swimmers in the table are 15
Probability =12/15
Hence YES

Bunuel
The table shows the performance of 15 professional swimmers who entered a county championship. Lap time is the average number of seconds per lap, stamina score is a coach-assigned rating out of 100, and reach is the arm span of a swimmer, measured from the tip of one middle finger to the tip of the other with both arms fully extended.

SwimmerLap time (sec)Stamina scoreReach (inches)
Allen34.18274
Barton32.87879
Chen31.06972
Diaz36.49281
Evans33.58870
Foster37.27482
Grant35.67177
Hughes30.98573
Ibrahim33.88078
Jensen32.19576
Kim34.96783
Lopez31.39071
Mason36.77980
Nash35.27275
Olsen30.59884

For each statement, select Yes if it is true based on the table. Otherwise, select No.
