The time period called “The Age of Revolution” spans approximately seventy-five years, where the United States was created, the French Revolution occurred, and other revolutionary movements took place.

(A) years, where the United States was created,( where is inappropriate, used for place)

(B) years, when the United States was created,(correct)

(C) years, which the United States created,( to show time period, when or during which is used)

(D) years, during which the United States was created,( no error)

(E) years that were when the United States was created,(that were is wrong)

Option B and D both are correct.

I think, 'During which' is used for a span of time.

Between B and D, D looks more logical.

Experts please throw some light.

Thanks

"When" tends to be used to refer to a point in time. "During which" conveys that something happened within a span of time.

So, in this case, while using "when" is not a horrible error, the expression "during which" much more effectively conveys a logical meaning. The version created using (D) clearly and effectively conveys that those three events occurred within the 75 year period of time called "The Age of Revolution."
