Hey GMAT Clubbers! 👋
Hey everyone! I’m currently midway through my GMAT prep, and as I dive deeper into practice tests and timing drills,
I’m realizing that test-taking strategy might be just as important as content knowledge.
From what I’ve experienced and read, managing your time well, knowing when to move on, and staying mentally sharp on exam day can really boost your score.
So I want to ask those who’ve been through this:
What’s the single most valuable test-taking strategy that helped you the most ?
Some of the strategies I’m trying to focus on now:- Quickly identifying and skipping time-consuming questions to keep pace.
- Making educated guesses confidently instead of wasting time getting stuck.
- Using process of elimination aggressively to improve accuracy and speed.
- Building stamina with full-length, timed practice tests.
- Pacing myself to maintain focus without burning out mid-section.
- Practicing mental math and estimation to save precious seconds.
- Breaking down tough problems into smaller steps rather than getting overwhelmed.
- Tracking my time per question during practice to avoid overspending on hard items.
- Developing a clear approach for Data Sufficiency questions to avoid unnecessary calculations.
- Managing test anxiety with breathing techniques and brief mental resets.
I’d love to hear your
#1 game-changing strategy — something practical that helped you improve your timing, accuracy, or confidence on test day.
