I have known a person who took "thinking pills" to study.
Don't remember what they were, but were supposed to stimulate your brain activity, etc.

Ritalin? I know a few guys used it in college to help focus for finals (and snorted it on the weekends for fun).

Don't remember what they were, but were supposed to stimulate your brain activity, etc. True story - he gave me the name of the pills but it's been years. Supposedly it helped, but he could not sleep very well and became paranoid (while he was taking the meds). It went away after he stopped. He still got the same score with the pills that he got a few months prior without.

P.S. And yes, there is a discussion somewhere on GMAT Club about taking meds for gmat performance - comes up from time to time.

It could have been ritalin or adderall, but honestly I don't think they would be very useful for the GMAT.

I've taken piracetam for quite a while and I think it helps my memory.

I've also taken ephedrine recently (unrelated to studying) and it really seems to help me concentrate (especially on boring RC questions).

Fish oil is also known to improve mental faculties. Take them in capsules though.

Barring the cognitive effects, everyone should be taking a fish oil supplement for the myriad of health benefits.

omega-3 fatty acids are quite beneficial. you can't get the same kind from flax seed oil.

I always thought the key to standardized tests was a twix bar... take it in the middle of the test, during break time. Keeps you awake and aware through the rest of the exam.
