Asking how many hours are there between x minutes past 12 noon and 8:10 p.m. of the same day, where x < 60.

Lets count the mins from 12:00 noon to 8:10 pm
From 12:00PM to 8:00PM = 8 hrs and from 8:00PM to 8:10PM = 10 mins
=> 8 hrs x 60 mins + 10 mins = 490 mins

Now that its already x mins past 12:00 noon
lets subtract x from 490 to count the mins from x past noon to 8:10 pm.

(490-x) mins

convert this to hours by dividing by 60

$$= \frac{490-x}{60}$$

One could also solve by assuming x. The condition for x is x<60
Suitable assumption can be x=10. Now 12:10 to 8:10 pm is 8 hours.
Substitute x as 10 in options too and which ever option gives you 8 hours will be your answer

Let's just say that X is equal to 10 so we will have that the number of hours will be 8, this is our target value. Now plug 10 in the answer choices to see which gives 8.

A is correct here.

Hope this helps

Three of the answer options are something/60, which means minutes have been converted to hours. (1hour = 60 minutes)
So lets find out the minutes which have passed, and we can divide the answer by 60 to get the answer in hours.

Firstly, from 12 to 8.10 pm, no of minutes = 8*60 + 10 = 490 minutes
But 'x' minutes have already passed after 12. So net minutes passed = (490-x)

Converting it to hours = (490-x)/60
