1. Erik Joe X
2. X Erik Joe
3. Joe Erik X
4. X Joe Erik

Consider E and J one. But, in this arrangement they can sit in two different combinations.

E first and J second or J first and E second.

Total we have (E and J) and third person= 2 arrangements to do.

Total arrangements= 2*2= 4

Consider Eric and joe as one person. Then we have total 2 persons to be seated.
No of ways of doing so = 2 ways
Now, Eric and joe could also be arranged in 2 different ways i.e Erik left to Joe and Erik right to Joe.
Hence, total ways = 2 x 2 = 4
