There are many benefits to timing your practice, including:
Manhattan GMAT recommends to allow 1 min. 20 s. per SC question, on the basis that CR and RC require more time because of the larger amount of text.
I wonder whether this is a widely-held wisdom or MGMAT-specific recommendation. I've been doing tests under this, and have found that on the medium to most difficult OG16 questions I have 4 wrong out of 12. Analyzing this, I saw many of the mistakes were easily preventable, given another quick look at the short-listed alternatives.
So I tried doing questions with 1 min. 40 s. and the number of wrong answers seems to have fallen by 50% - to about 2 out of 12.
Should I expect the extra 20s to severely handicap me in CR and RC? Assuming 12 SC questions this equates to 4 minutes, which is quite a lot, but I do see a return on that investment...

Hi jk451,
There is not hard and fast rule about how much time you should spend. If those extra 20 seconds ensure you a much higher accuracy, then do invest those extra seconds. However, make sure that the time which you are cutting from the CR and the RC questions does not cost you much.
If you can read a paragraph faster and comprehend it also, that can save considerable time for you in the CR and the RC sections.

Hi
SC is a section where you can actually save time which can be used for the RC and CR sections 1:40 per SC ques is too much time With an error log you should be able to identify your mistakes and prevent them from reoccurring thus improving accuracy Furthermore try quickly eliminating few incorrect options which will allow you to spend some more time on choosing the correct answer from the remaining options
