Are you guys planning on waiting until decisions come out before getting gifts for your recommenders?

The answer to your question is - don't wait.
Different suggestion for you however, are you potentially planning to use these recommenders again? If yes, you want to see who is your fan and who is not, so that if you have to use them again, you would know who your best allies are and who may need to be replaced. My suggestion: give them all a nice gift so that they feel guilty if they did not write you the best recommendation possible and the ones that write you back an awkward note or don't write back at all, are the ones you should not use again. The ones who write a nice and kind note, are the ones who did not need a reward to start with and who will do a great job again. (my human psychology analysis at least_
