If you are trying to increase your overall score, your time would likely be better spent focusing on verbal. There is a lot of room for improvement on a v37.

If not, check the quant section of the forum, particularly the sticky threads. There is a wealth of information there that should be able to boost you up a point in a short period of time

Hi rm520886953,

If you can consistently hit Q49 during your CATs (and on the Official GMAT), then you already likely have all of the necessary skills to score Q50 or Q51 and you don't have any big 'weak spots' when it comes to the Quant section. That having been said, there are likely some 'little things' in terms of your content knowledge or the 'precision' in your work that could use improvement, so we have to take a good look at how you perform on your CATs.

Before we discuss any of that in any additional detail though, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Hi Rich,

Answers below.

1) How did you score on the Official GMAT (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?
2) How long have you studied?
3) What is your overall goal score?
4) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
5) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

Thank you for your reply. Can you please give me some pointers to help me with the verbal score, especially sentence correction and critical reasoning. Also, can you tell me how to search sticky threads?

Hi rm520886953,

First off, a 700/Q49 is an outstanding score (it's right around the 90th percentile overall), so you can comfortably apply to any Business Schools that interest you. As such, a retest is likely not necessary. Depending on the Schools that you plan to apply to, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile. There's a Forum full of them here:

There's certainly no harm in retesting, but to raise this 700 to a 760+, you'll have to make some significant adjustments to how you handle the Verbal section. An extra 1-2 Quant Scaled Points won't increase your Overall Score that much, so you'll have to really 'nitpick' your Verbal performances on your CATs (with the goal of determining WHY you're getting questions wrong). In real simple terms, with a Score Goal of 760+, you cannot afford to get any questions wrong because of silly/little mistakes.

1) What study materials have you used so far?
2) When are you planning to retake the GMAT?
3) Going forward, how many hours do you think you can consistently study each week?

Hi rm520886953,

With a planned Test Date in April, you have plenty of time to study and improve - at this point, you can 'play around' with your studies a bit or you can try to be really 'efficient' (and potentially retake the GMAT a lot sooner). To pick up the missing points that you're after, you will have to make the necessary changes to how you 'see' (and respond to) the Verbal section; if you continue to answer questions in the same ways as before, then you will likely continue to score around 700. At higher-and-higher score levels, points can be won and lost rather easily on the GMAT, so we need to analyze your recent CATs in a bit more detail.

After reviewing the Verbal section of your last CAT, how many questions did you get wrong....
1) Because of a silly/little mistake?
2) Because there was some math/verbal that you just could not remember how to do?
3) Because the question was too hard?
4) Because you were low on time and had to guess?
5) How many questions did you 'narrow down to 2 choices' but still get incorrect?

Rich
