Let a be people who booked 1 night
Let b be people who booked 2 nights
Total number of attendees = a+b
Total number of nights booked = a+2b
Statement 1 : 80% of the attendees reserved a hotel room for 2 nights.
b/(a+b) = 0.8
b = 0.8a+0.8b
0.2b=0.8a
b=4a
This statement does not gives the number of attendees, hence is insufficient.
Statement 2 : The attendees reserved a total of 153 nights at the hotel.
a+2b = 153
This statement is not sufficient.
Combining both statements we get
a+8a = 153
9a = 153
a = 17
b= 4*17 = 68
Both statements together are sufficient.
Answer is C

Knowing what percentage or people have reserved the room for 2 nights, is not enough
We will also need the total number of attendees to find out the actual number of attendees,
who reserved the room for 2 night
Hence, insufficient.
(2) The attendees reserved a total of 153 nights at the hotel.
There is a possibility where only 1 attendee who books 1 night.
Another possibility where 13 attendees book 1 night can also give 153 nights booked
Hence insufficient.
On combining the 2 statements, we can say for sure that the number of attendees who book for 1 night
is only 25% of those booking 2 nights.(20:80 or 1:4)
Also, known is the total number of rooms booked(153).
With these information we will get 2 equations and can solve to get the 2 unknowns.(Choice C)
