E is wrong because -

" moderate exercise can be equally effective than most sedatives" is incorrect

Option E would have been correct if equally was replaced by less or more !

Equality is always compared as : "As X As Y"

To relieve anxiety, moderate exercise can be equally effective as, and less addictive than, most sedatives.

a. effective as, and

b. as effective as, while being

c. effectively equal to, but

d. as effective as, and

e. effective, and

Could not reason out for D ... need explanation.

I don't think E is wrong

E is wrong because both sides of "and" should be gramatically similar, so right side of "and" is a "comparison", so left side should also be a comparison, "as effective as" and "less addictive than" are grammatically similar, ie. both comparisons.

 it got me. I thought that if 'equally' is given 'as ...as' construction is not needed. So, I picked A.

CODE19's explanation is good.
