hsambiguity
Hi,
I gave my first Official GMAT on 17th November and scored 640 Q44/V33 (Took 10 Practice Tests. Scores ranged from 660-710. Got 630 once) My plan was to apply in R2 to Canadian B-Schools only (Rotman, Schulich and Ivey) but after discussing with many people and lot of research, I have come to conclusion that I'll have to retake GMAT in order to increase my chances. [6 Yrs exp., Indian (Female) Engineer]
I had already scheduled my TOEFL for 3rd Dec, 2016 and to be able to apply in R2, I cannot delay my GMAT retake (Planning to retake on 24th Dec)
So, TOEFL on 3rd Dec and GMAT on 24th Dec(expecting to improve 40 points atleast). Do you think I'm being over-ambitious here?
Should I defer my applications and plan for 2018 intake? Or go ahead for R2?
Regards,
Hi hsambiguity,
You can certainly take both the tests on the scheduled dates. Since you have already given the GMAT, you can focus more on the TOEFL for a few days before the test.
And moreover, there are many transferrable skills from your GMAT preparation that you can use for TOEFL.
Regarding the GMAT retake, you need to dig down deep and understand your pain areas:
SC: The questions test various concepts such as S-V agreement, modifiers, parallelism etc. Find out what troubles you.
CR: There might be certain types of questions that are troubling you. May be Assumption, may be conclusion, inference etc.
You need to find that out and then practice them
RC: This again can be drilled down into different types of questions and also different topics. See what questions and topics trouble you the most and then practice accordingly.
Quants: Again try to break the questions in topics such as Algebra, Number system (very important), Geometry, PnC etc.
As an addition, start preparing an
error log and keep a note of all the mistakes you made and the lessons you learnt from the problems. This will ensure you do not make the same mistake again.
Make sure you complete all of the
OG and the Verbal review and if required, you can buy the Question pack1 from mba.com
