In my Toefl exam, my first speaking question is;
What is the important invention in your county in last 5 years.
I think, English level is not important to answer this kind of questions:)

my TOEFL exam is next week. i just have a question regarding writing section. in Microsoft office word we automatically get capital letter at the beginning of the sentence. but in TOEFL we do not get so. my question is 'is it necessary to make first letter capital. if some one miss it, is it hurt his score?

It never crossed my mind but it is a good question.
I have done the exam without even noticing that and my score was not bad at all (113, 28 on the writing).
I believe that if you have a couple of mistakes like those your score will not be hurt.

Best advice I can give is for you to proofread all the essays and correct everything you can. Keep some time for it.

Cheers

You should to put a capital letter always at the beginning of every sentence (ie, after a period) in all your English writing (not only in TOEFL, AWA, essays, etc.). You won't provide a good impression to your readers if you don't do that.

By the way, this is not an English language standard, is this also the case in German, Spanish, French, etc.

I find this guy very useful
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUdCFcbdCzc
he presents very clear guidelines and examples + he's a bit nerdy so it's fun to watch him :)

I was using his advices and tomorrow I'll test how useful they are :)

I followed the instructions given in these videos and got a 117/120 in my TOEFL. Break up was Reading (29), Listening (30), Speaking (29) and Writing (29).

Reading and Listening weren't too difficult, but I was really concerned about my speaking as I am not a native speaker. I speak fluently, but the idea of talking to a PC got me a little nervous and I ran out of ideas quick. Never the less, I followed the speaking instructions given in these videos and stuck to the format, and voila! 29/30!

As far as writing goes, again stick to the formats provided in other threads on this website, and if you want a 28+ score, make sure you write atleast 450 - 500+ words essays!

I applied to Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism at USC, and they demanded for a 115+ TOEFL score. I was super glad to see my result. Thanks to GMATCLUB members for posting out such quality material. You guys are way too cool for school ;)

Regards,
Karan

As you mentioned that for Writing II, the word count should be 450-500 for getting 26+ . For Writing I what should be the word count range for getting 26+ in that ?

Thanks.

if you have done a look at official guide, an essay is rating 5 with about 300 words.

This video are amazing but on this point I disagree because is important what Bruce Stirling define as : OPDUL=C

Thank you for posting these videos. I have not very confident about my speaking coz I am not a native English speaker. But these videos really helped me get through very easily. I did not follow the speaking template, but the videos taught me how to break down those 6 speaking test and taught me which sections to concentrate on the lecture. I took my TOEFL yesterday, waiting for the results. Now, need to start for GMAT.
