I get it that the answer for question 1 is A, but kindly explain why E is wrong?

Hi VitaNuova,

When we read the ending lines of the last para, we can see that author is moving towards the idea of poverty, so we cannot really say that passage is most probably intended to make people recognize social evils, though the passage starts with similar lines, but later on he moves on to show how we tolerate poverty as if it were either a wholesome tonic for lazy people, and then he moves to categorizing a poor person.

So, we can eliminate E, as A is definitely a better choice.

Let me know if this Helps.
Thanks.

I agree with you, C should be the correct answer (B is close after C). I have marked this question as debatable and low quality as the result.

C) focuses on the core argument: imprisonment = malicious injury. Best Answer

B) Focuses on a supporting analogy. Second best answer after C.
