The following appeared as part of an article in the business section of a local newspaper.
"Motorcycle X has been manufactured in the United States for over 70 years. Although one foreign company has copied the motorcycle and is selling it for less, the company has failed to attract motorcycle X customers—some say because its product lacks the exceptionally loud noise made by motorcycle X. But there must be some other explanation. After all, foreign cars tend to be quieter than similar American-made cars, but they sell at least as well. Also, television advertisements for motorcycle X highlight its durability and sleek lines, not its noisiness, and the ads typically have voice-overs or rock music rather than engine-roar on the sound track."
Discuss how well reasoned you find this argument. In your discussion be sure to analyze the line of reasoning and the use of evidence in the argument. For example, you may need to consider what questionable assumptions underlie the thinking and what alternative explanations or counterexamples might weaken the conclusion. You can also discuss what sort of evidence would strengthen or refute the argument, what changes in the argument would make it more logically sound, and what, if anything, would help you better evaluate its conclusion.
Answer:
The argument infers that there must be some other reason than the absence of 'exceptionally loud noise' in the motorcycle manufactured by foreign company for its poor sales. The argument is without any details or data and takes a leap of faith to assume the conclusion with respect to the popularity of the motorcycles.
Firstly. the author does not give any specific details of the motorcycle X. It compares it with cars. The comparison is faulty. People buy motorcycles and cars for different reasons. Motorcycles are mostly bought for the thrill and adventure of travel with the feel of the wind. On the other hand, cars are predominantly used as a utility. Reasons for buying both are distinctly different.
Secondly, the motorcycle manufactured by foreign manufacturer, we can name motorcycle y, might have failed due to quality, service, brand or other issues. These require consideration before arriving at a conclusion. Though it is possible that the most important factor seen by customers might be the loud noise of motorcycle X, however, the same cannot be commented at this stage. The brand name which the motorcycle must have achieved in the past 70 years might be because of the comfort, reliability, style or other factors.
Also, the author has mentioned the television advertisements. It needs to be understood that they can capture very few aspects of a product. Mostly visual appeal is enhanced so that the potential customers are initially attracted. Later during market survey and test rides other aspects can be checked.
Hence, the argument is without any substance and requires more details and data for making a proper inference. Though the noise factor might be the reason for the poor sale of motorcycle Y; however the above premises given by the author fail to convince. Details and customer survey on the preferences of consumer, sales data of both the motorcycles, test ride reviews by experts will help understand the argument and the reader will be able to arrive at a conclusion.

I haven't done anything special, just differentiated question from answer and made paragraphs clear. That's it.
PS: The above score is evaluated after making these above changes in your essay.
