Hey DSK23!
Thanks for sharing your profile—it actually has quite a few strengths that align well with what ISB typically looks for.

You’ve got a solid academic background with strong 10th and graduation scores, and coming from NIT adds weight to your profile. What really stands out, though, is the breadth of your work experience—from electrical consulting to investor research, and now operational consulting. That shows versatility, and it’s a great foundation if you’re looking to pivot into more strategic roles within consulting.

That said, ISB is a competitive space, so here are a few areas you might want to focus on to further strengthen your application:

  1. Telling a cohesive story
Since you’ve moved across different domains, it’s important to clearly explain why those transitions happened and how they all lead to your next goal—strategy consulting. The admissions team will want to see a clear thread connecting your past roles to your future ambitions.
  2. Highlighting impact, not just responsibilities
At this stage in your career, ISB wants to see evidence of leadership—even if it’s informal. Try to bring out specific moments where you drove results, led initiatives, or influenced decisions. Numbers and outcomes go a long way in making that case.
  3. Strong test score and positioning
If you haven’t taken the GMAT/GRE yet, aim high—710+ for GMAT or 325+ for GRE will keep you competitive. Since research analyst profiles are fairly common, what’ll really help you stand out is positioning your unique edge—like your exposure to both operational and investor-focused work, which could be a great angle for someone aiming at strategy roles.

You’re definitely on the right track. If you can tie your experiences together and show clear motivation, you’ll have a compelling case.
At Admit scholar we can help you increase your chances.

wow!. Thanks for the comprehensive evaluation. I am currently prepping for my GMAT and aiming for a score in that range. Will definitely keep in mind the points mentioned above during my application process. Thanks again!!

I am a Mechanical Engineering graduate from MNNIT Allahabad with over 6 years of experience across the corporate, development, and consulting sectors. I began my career as a Design Engineer at L&T, working on international projects. Driven by my passion for impactful change, I transitioned to the development sector as a Project Associate at Better World Foundation (BWF), and later as a PPIA Fellow with Transform Rural India (TRIF), where I led grassroots governance and development initiatives in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
Currently, I am working with EY LLP as a Project Consultant, based at the District Administration office in Chaibasa, Jharkhand, where I serve as the Programme Officer for Livelihood and Skill Development. This role has deepened my expertise in public service delivery, policy implementation, and stakeholder management.
With a GMAT Focus Edition score of 645, now pursuing an MBA to transition into higher-growth, globally competitive roles in strategy or impact consulting with firms like BCG, Deloitte, Dalberg,EY and consulting also parallel looking in ESG domain.. I am looking to build my career internationally, particularly in the UK, USA, Singapore, or the Middle East. Suggestion for college and any good affordable consultant

Hi, your profile is very interesting. The work experience is diverse, which points to knowledge of significantly different industries. The b-schools will be interested in seeing your impact and achievements, and I gather you have plenty of these having worked across many organizations. Working with the Government can multiply your impact multifold because of the large scale projects and that will help you create a compelling resume.
Your academic component comprises your undergrad education and the GMAT/GRE. You have not mentioned about your undergrad education and grades, but no matter what your grades were, your GMAT score is still low, and I strongly recommend you to retake, especially if you want to apply to b-schools outside India.
In terms of MBA location, you can be more strategic about where you will find post-MBA opportunities in your area of interest (For example, ME does not sound very convincing for working in ESG.
While your career goals are very valid given your experience, I do want to point out impact consulting firms don’t always recruit freshly minted MBAs. Also, they don’t recruit students from every business school, so you can research this ...

Am slightly surprised that there is not even a mention of GMAT, in your post Nikhil. It's quite important you know....the same profile with (say) a GMAT score of 685 would look quite decent, while the same profile with a GMAT of (say) a 615 will lose all the sheen.

Would suggest you completely focus on GMAT over the next few months; not an easy exam:?

Experience in the public service domain is a big plus in your profile Saurav. Kudos for that kick in you!

Any chance you can consider re-appearing in GMAT to push that score by 20-30 points KUMARSAURAV51198 ?

Total around 5.5
Okay not so bad, you’ll have 2 by the time you join.

Profile is decent, I don’t see any immediate red flags. Would recommend working on the GMAT.
